Mirage Climate Control Mystery: Solar Sensor to Blame?

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Blower does not work properly

Insufficient Cooling/Heating

Hey there! Need some advice about my 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage (77.5K km). The climate control is acting up, blower's inconsistent and the heating/cooling isn't working right. There's also a warning light on my dash. I'm thinking it might be a faulty solar sensor, but after a bad experience with my previous mechanic, I'd like to hear if anyone's dealt with similar symptoms. Did you get it fixed, and if so, was it really the solar sensor? Any recommendations for reliable mechanics who know their way around Mirages would be great too. Thanks!

I had a similar issue with my 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander last year. The symptoms were pretty much identical, inconsistent blower operation and temperature control problems. Initially thought it was just the solar sensor, but when I took it to the garage, they diagnosed a defective main wiring harness that connects to the climate control module. The repair turned out to be more serious than expected. They had to replace sections of the wiring harness and recalibrate the entire HVAC system. The job took about two days because they needed to access components behind the dashboard. My warning light was also related to the same issue, it was throwing a climate control fault code. Not saying your problem is exactly the same, but given the similar symptoms, it might be worth getting the wiring checked out properly. I'd recommend finding a certified Mitsubishi dealer or a mechanic who specializes in Asian cars. These electrical issues can be tricky to diagnose correctly.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful info. I'm curious, do you remember roughly how much the repair set you back? And has everything been working smoothly since then? My Mirage's still under warranty but I want to be prepared just in case. Been a bit nervous about taking it anywhere after my last mechanic messed things up.

Hey again! Just wanted to update you on my Outlander situation. After getting it fixed, everything's been running like a dream! It cost me €155 to sort out the wiring harness issue, which honestly wasn't as bad as I'd feared. The solar sensor that was causing problems initially got fixed during the same visit, and I haven't had a single problem with the climate control since then. I totally get being nervous after a bad mechanic experience, been there! But once I found a good Mitsubishi specialist, it was smooth sailing. Since you mentioned your Mirage is still under warranty, definitely take advantage of that! You shouldn't have to pay anything if it's covered. My Outlander's climate control has been spot-on for over a year now, no more weird temperature swings or blower issues. Best decision I made was getting it properly diagnosed and fixed. Hope this helps give you some peace of mind about what you might be dealing with!

Thanks so much for all the details! You've convinced me to get it checked out. I actually took your advice and went to the Mitsubishi dealer yesterday. Turns out it was a combination of issues, faulty wiring and a blown fuse. Since it was under warranty, they fixed it for free! The whole thing took about 4 hours. The mechanic was super professional and explained everything clearly. They even showed me what was wrong and gave me some tips for maintenance. The climate control's working perfectly now, no more crazy temperature swings or warning lights! Really glad I asked here first, saved me from another potential disaster with a unusual mechanic. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it gave me the confidence to take it to the right place. My Mirage's running like new again!
