Mirage Battery Woes: Flickering Lights & Starting Issues

Weak battery when starting the engine

|

Dim or flickering lights

Hey everyone, my 2013 Mitsubishi Mirage has been acting up lately. The lights are dimming/flickering and the engine struggles to start due to weak battery. I suspect it might be related to the battery sensor, but I'm not entirely sure. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? I'd really appreciate if you could share how your mechanic diagnosed and fixed this issue. Please let me know what the actual problem was in your case and what needed to be replaced.

Hey there! I had some experience with something very similar on my 2011 Mitsubishi ASX (I have some experience working on cars, but I'm no expert). Had the exact same symptoms, dimming lights and starting issues. Took it to my trusted workshop, and they diagnosed it as a faulty battery sensor microprocessor. Got it fixed for about 315 Euro. The repair solved all the problems immediately. What's the mileage on your Mirage? Also, have you noticed any other electrical issues? This info would help determine if you're dealing with the same problem I had.

Hey! Thanks for sharing your experience. My Mirage is at 54283 KM, and I just had my last service about two months ago. Interesting that you mention the battery sensor microprocessor, that's pretty much what I suspected. Haven't noticed any other electrical issues besides the dimming lights and starting problem. Did your mechanic mention how common this issue is with Mitsubishis? Would be good to know if this is a typical problem I should watch out for in the future.

Hey again! Yeah, glad I could help earlier. Just to follow up on your question about how common this is, when I took my ASX to the workshop, my mechanic actually told me it's a fairly known issue with Mitsubishis from around our model years. He said he sees it maybe 3-4 times a year, mostly in ASXs and Mirages. You know what's funny? After I got mine fixed, my -in-law's 2012 Mirage had the exact same problem about six months later. Same symptoms and everything. I immediately told him about my experience, and sure enough, faulty battery sensor microprocessor again. Just a heads up, while it's not super cheap to fix, it's definitely worth getting it done at a proper workshop. I initially thought about trying one of those cheaper garages, but my mechanic mentioned that the calibration needs to be spot-on, or you'll just end up with the same issues again. Since you asked about future problems, I haven't had any similar issues in the two years since the repair. Just keep an eye on your battery voltage readings (if you have them on your dash), as that's usually the first sign something's going wrong with the sensor again.

Thanks so much for all this detailed info! It's actually really reassuring to know this is a recognized issue with Mitsubishis, and that your repair has held up well for two years. That's exactly the kind of firsthand experience I was hoping to hear about. I'm definitely going to take it to an authorized workshop then, rather than risking it with a cheaper alternative. The price you mentioned seems worth it for a proper fix. And thanks for the tip about watching the voltage readings, I'll keep an eye on that from now on. Guess I'll be making that workshop appointment first thing tomorrow morning! Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and follow-up info.
