Minicab Headlight Auto-Level System Failure, Help Needed

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

|

Headlamp leveller malfunction

Hey everyone, my '02 Mitsubishi Minicab (gas engine, 136k km) is giving me headaches. The headlamp leveling system seems to be acting up and there's a warning light on my dash. Pretty sure it's related to the auto-leveling feature. Had a bad experience with my last mechanic, so I'm a bit hesitant to go back. Has anyone dealt with similar headlight control issues on their Minicab? Would love to hear about your experiences and maybe get a recommendation for a reliable mechanic who knows these cars well. Thanks!

Hi there! I actually dealt with a similar issue on my '05 Mitsubishi Outlander last summer. The headlight leveling system warning came on, and it turned out to be a faulty servomotor in the right headlight assembly. My headlights would occasionally misalign, especially when going over bumps. Initially, I thought it was just a sensor issue, but my mechanic found that the servomotor had seized up. Got it fixed at a certified workshop, they had to replace the entire servomotor unit. Not a catastrophic problem, but definitely something you want to address since proper headlight alignment is crucial for safe night driving. The repair wasn't particularly complex, but you'll want someone who knows what they're doing with these systems. The tricky part was properly calibrating the new servomotor after installation. Would suggest finding a garage that specializes in Asian imports, as they're more likely to have experience with these specific headlight systems. Hope this helps!

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful to know about the servomotor being the culprit. Just wondering, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair job? Also, has everything been working smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other quirks pop up?

Hey again! Yes, absolutely, I can give you the specifics about my repair. The total bill came to 1040€ for replacing the defective servomotor in the headlight. I know it might sound a bit steep, but honestly, it was worth every penny for the peace of mind. And I've got good news, since getting it fixed at the workshop, the headlight range control system has been working perfectly! No more warning lights on the dash, and the headlights adjust properly on different road conditions. That functional limitation warning that was driving me nuts is completely gone now. It's like having a new car when driving at night. I haven't noticed any other issues pop up since the repair, which was a relief. The mechanics did a really thorough job with the calibration, and you can really tell the difference, especially when driving on uneven roads or going up hills. If you're still looking for a shop recommendation, I'd be happy to share where I got mine done!

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! Just got back from the mechanic actually, and you were spot on about the servomotor. Took your advice and found a shop specializing in Asian imports. The guy seemed to really know his stuff, he diagnosed it right away. My bill came in a bit lower at around 850€, which was a relief. They had the parts in stock and fixed it the same day. The headlights are working perfectly now, no more warning lights or weird adjustments when I'm driving. Such a weight off my shoulders! Funny thing is, while I was there, the mechanic showed me exactly what was wrong with the old servomotor. It was completely seized up, just like yours was. He even gave me some tips about regular maintenance to prevent similar issues in the future. Really appreciate everyone's help here. Sometimes these car problems can make you feel like you're going crazy, but it's good to know I'm not the only one who's dealt with this. Case closed on this headache!
