Mini Roadster Jerking and Reduced Power

My 2012 Mini Roadster diesel is acting up. Getting jerking when accelerating, check engine light is on, and there's reduced engine power. Sometimes the engine stalls at idle, runs rough, and I smell strong exhaust. Error memory suggests a defective intake manifold. Could it be scorching leading to a gasket leak?

Hey, I had similar problems with my Mini! Jerking, check engine light... sounds like a vacuum leak. Have you checked the manifold sensor? That could cause the rough running.

Manifold sensor, okay. Is it difficult to check for a gasket leak or vacuum leak on that? I'm not super experienced.

Yeah, it's likely a vacuum leak from the intake manifold gasket. If you're not experienced, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop. They can do a smoke test to find the exact location of the leak and confirm if it's the intake manifold. The intake manifold is what distributes the air to the engine. A leak there messes with the engine performance.

Thanks a lot for the quick help. It was indeed the intake manifold. Had it replaced at the workshop for 1180€. Engine performance is back to normal now.
