Mini Roadster Airbag System Failure

I am experiencing an airbag system failure in my 2012 Mini Roadster Diesel. The airbag warning lamp is illuminated in the speedometer. Having consulted the service manual, a likely cause appears to be a defective cable or plug connection within the airbag system. Before pursuing further diagnostics or considering an airbag recall, I am curious if anyone else has encountered this issue. The importance of vehicle safety, particularly regarding airbag deployment, is paramount.

That sounds eerily familiar. I had a similar airbag warning light issue crop up in my old Peugeot. Never fun when vehicle safety is involved! It turned out to be a dodgy connection to one of the crash sensors. Is it possible that is the case for your Mini too?

Interesting. You mentioned a 'dodgy connection to one of the crash sensors'. Could you elaborate on how that manifested itself? Was it visibly corroded, or was it more subtle, like a loose fit? Any details would be greatly appreciated.

It wasn't visibly obvious at first glance. Think of it like a loose wire in a lamp – everything looks fine until you give it a wiggle. A mechanic wiggled the connector, and the light flickered. They cleaned the contacts and secured the connection, and the problem vanished. Given your expertise, I'd say it's worth checking those connections thoroughly, but ultimately, a workshop visit might be the safest bet.

I appreciate you sharing your experience. Based on your feedback and my own diagnostics, I've booked an appointment with a trusted workshop. It appears the cable connection to the crash sensor is indeed the culprit, mirroring the issue you described. The estimated repair cost is 95€, which seems reasonable. Thanks again for your help!
