Mini Paceman transmission problems

My 2015 Mini Paceman is exhibiting some concerning transmission behavior. The paddle shifters are non-responsive, and the gearbox shifts erratically, sometimes slipping. I've also noticed grinding noises during gear changes. The car is often stuck in emergency mode and the error memory suggests a defective transmission control unit. Could this be the root cause of all these issues, or should I investigate other potential problems before considering transmission repair?

Grinding noises and emergency mode definitely point to a serious issue. You mention a defective control unit. Have you performed any transmission diagnosis beyond reading the error code? What was the specific error code?

Given the symptoms and the error code, a defective transmission control module is the likely culprit. It's possible other issues exist, but the control module governs the transmission's behavior. Replacement is probably necessary; consider a qualified workshop for the transmission repair. They can confirm the diagnosis and properly install/program the new car computer.

I haven't done any in-depth transmission diagnosis myself beyond reading the error memory with an OBD2 device. The error code indicated a fault in the transmission control. Is there a way to confirm that the car computer is faulty before replacing it?

Thank you for confirming my suspicions. I'll bring the Mini to a qualified workshop to replace the transmission control module. Hopefully that resolves the shifting issues and gets rid of that error code. I appreciate the advice.
