Mini Paceman problems (2018) with the exhaust gas recirculation or EGR valve

Engine shuts off by itself

Check engine light on

Loss of engine power

Strong exhaust smell

Unsteady engine

Shaking while idling

Hi everyone, I have a problem with my Mini Paceman (diesel, year of manufacture 2015). The symptoms are: Check Engine Light on, engine stalls by itself, loss of power, rough engine running, strong exhaust smell, and shuddering at idle. I suspect that it could be the EGR valve. Have any of you had similar problems? If so, how did you get the problem solved at the garage and what were your experiences? Any help is welcome! Thank you!

Hey, I had similar problems with my Mini Countryman (diesel, built in 2013). I have a bit of experience with cars, but nothing professional. I also had the following symptoms: Check Engine Light, loss of power and engine stalling. I took it to the garage and the diagnosis was a defective/jammed EGR valve. The repair cost 355.0 euros, which really hurt, but afterwards the car ran perfectly again. The garage was quick and fitted the part the same day. So it was relatively straightforward. To be able to help you better, it would be good to know whether your Paceman has the same symptoms as my Countryman. Have you already received a diagnosis or just a suspicion? VG,

Hey, thanks for your reply! Yes, my Paceman shows exactly the same symptoms as your Countryman. So far I've only suspected the EGR valve because I've read up a bit and it would fit well. Unfortunately, I haven't had it diagnosed yet, but I'll probably have to take it to the garage soon. I recently had my car serviced at 176432 km and everything was still in order. I hope that the repair goes as smoothly for me as it did for you. VG

Hey, I'm glad I could help a little! If your Paceman is showing the same symptoms, then it could actually be the EGR valve. For me, replacing the valve really made the difference. You say you had your car serviced recently at 176432km and everything was fine then - maybe the EGR valve went bye-bye after that. These things sometimes tend to break down quite quickly and without much warning. I would definitely recommend going to the garage and having it checked. Maybe you'll be lucky and the repair will go as smoothly for you as it did for me. You won't be able to avoid spending a bit of money, but afterwards you should be able to get back on the road without any problems. If you need more details about the diagnosis or the repair, let me know! VG,

Hey, thanks again for the info! I will definitely go to the garage and have the EGR valve checked. The replacement you did gives me hope that this will solve the problem. It hurts to save money on repairs, but if the car runs smoothly again afterwards, it's worth it. I'll let you know again when I have more detailed information or what the outcome is. Thanks for your help! VG
