Mini Paceman Diesel Running Rich

Okay, so I'm pulling my hair out here! My 2015 Mini Paceman diesel is giving me serious grief. The engine seems to be running way too rich. I've got reduced engine power, the check engine light is on, it's running rough, and my fuel consumption has gone through the roof. Plus, it's jerking like crazy when I try to accelerate. From what I've read, it could be a defective injection valve or injector? Anyone else experience this?

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Mini Paceman. Check engine light, rough running, and definitely noticed the extra fuel consumption. Have you checked your spark plugs, by chance? The rich mixture can sometimes foul them up pretty quickly. It could also be the fuel injectors themselves. Might be worth getting those tested before you go too deep. Did you check the intake manifold too?

Spark plugs are fairly new actually, I had them changed about 10000km ago. How did you figure out it was a fuel injector? And which one was it? I don't want to start replacing things out of nowhere. Also, did you notice any specific issues with the intake manifold?

In my case, the check engine light was the giveaway, I scanned it and it pointed towards a misfire on one of the cylinders. Further investigation revealed a faulty fuel injector. I wouldn't recommend self-diagnosing too much in this case, as it could be any of the injectors so it is best to take it to a shop. They can run proper diagnostics and pinpoint the exact problem. Maybe get a quote first, though.

Just wanted to give you an update. You were spot on! Took my Paceman to a local mechanic, and they confirmed it was a faulty fuel injector. After replacing the injector and cleaning the intake manifold, the engine is running smoothly again! Total cost was around 515€ – a bit more than I hoped, but worth it to get rid of that awful jerking. Thanks again for your help!
