Mini Paceman Diesel DPF Issue

Alright, I'm pulling my hair out here. My 2015 Mini Paceman diesel is acting up. The warning light in the speedometer lit up, and the engine feels like it's lost a lot of power. I've also noticed some smoke when I accelerate and a strong exhaust smell. I scanned the error codes, and it's showing "Diesel particulate filter exhaust pressure too low". From what I've read, it could be the exhaust back pressure sensor. Has anyone else had this issue or have any tips on how to troubleshoot DPF issues?

Whoa, that sounds eerily familiar! I had similar DPF issues with my Mini, same symptoms and everything: warning light, sluggish engine, and that nasty exhaust smell. Have you checked the DPF pressure sensor? It might be faulty. It’s a common issue in these diesel engines and it messes up the emission control system. When was the last time you did a DPF regeneration? Maybe try forcing one through the car's computer?

Thanks for the quick reply! So, when you say DPF pressure sensor, is that the same as the exhaust back pressure sensor? And how difficult is it to replace? I'm fairly handy, but I don't want to mess anything up with the diesel engine management system. I haven't tried forcing a DPF regeneration yet; I wasn't sure if it was safe with the warning light on.

Yep, exhaust back pressure sensor and DPF pressure sensor are the same thing. Honestly, I wouldn't mess with it myself if I were you. It can be a real pain to get to, and you could easily damage something else in the process. Plus, you might need to recalibrate the new sensor with a diagnostic tool. I'd recommend taking it to a workshop. They'll be able to diagnose it properly and replace the sensor without causing any further problems. Better safe than sorry when it comes to the emission control system.

Just got my Mini Paceman back. It was indeed the exhaust back pressure sensor. The total bill came to 245€, including the sensor and labor. The car runs like new now. Thanks a lot for your help, your experience really pointed me in the right direction!
