Mini One power steering issue

I am experiencing issues with the power steering function on my 2023 Mini One. The steering wheel vibrates/shakes, the handling feels spongy, and the error memory has stored a fault. It requires increased effort when steering, as if the power steering is failing. Could a defective cable or plug connection be the likely cause?

Vibrating steering wheel and spongy handling sound familiar. I had something similar happen with my Mini One. It felt like trying to steer through molasses, especially at lower speeds. Did you check the hydraulic fluid level? My issue turned out to be a faulty electric steering pump connection. Is the electric steering making a weird noise?

The hydraulic fluid level seems fine. I didn't notice any unusual noises from the electric steering, but I will double-check that. Where exactly was the faulty connection on your Mini?

My apologies, I should have clarified. My issue was indeed a defective cable or plug connection of the component, just as you suspected. Given that you've already checked the fluid and are experiencing similar symptoms, I'd advise against tinkering too much yourself and suggest taking it to a workshop to get it properly diagnosed.

Thank you for the insight. I took your advice and brought the Mini in. Turns out, it was a defective cable/plug connection to the power steering component, just like you suspected. The repair cost was 95€. Steering is back to normal!
