Mini One Oil Pressure Issue

I'm experiencing a rather unsettling issue with my 2023 Mini One. The oil pressure warning lamp illuminates intermittently, accompanied by loud mechanical noises emanating from the engine. The vehicle has 56970 km on the clock. I suspect a defect in the oil pump might be the cause. Has anyone encountered similar problems, and what steps did you take to resolve them?

Low oil pressure in a Mini can be a real headache. I had a similar issue with my Mini, and the oil pressure warning lamp was constantly on. The loud mechanical noises are concerning, as they might indicate potential damage to the engine bearings. Have you checked the oil level recently? Also, when was the last oil change performed, and what oil viscosity are you currently using? It might also be worth checking the oil pressure sensor, as a faulty sensor can sometimes trigger false warnings.

Thanks for the quick response! The oil level is fine, and I performed an oil change less than 5000 km ago using the recommended oil viscosity. The oil pressure sensor seems like a plausible culprit, but I am still concerned about the noises coming from the engine. When you had the oil pressure issue with your Mini, did you also notice any unusual sounds?

Yes, I did experience unusual sounds when my Mini had low oil pressure. It turned out that the oil pump was failing, which wasn't providing adequate lubrication to the engine components. Given your description, it's highly probable that you're facing a similar problem. I strongly advise against driving the car any further until the issue is properly diagnosed and resolved. Continuing to drive with low oil pressure could lead to severe engine damage. I would recommend taking it to a workshop.

Thank you for sharing your experience; it's incredibly helpful! Based on your recommendation, I took my Mini One directly to a trusted mechanic. After a thorough inspection, they confirmed the oil pump was indeed faulty. The repair, including parts and labor, came to 755€. While it's a significant expense, I'm relieved to have the issue resolved before it caused catastrophic engine damage. I appreciate your advice!
