Mini One Gear Shifting Issues

Ugh, my 2012 Mini One is giving me grief! The engine warning light is on and I'm getting some seriously clunky gear shifting with grinding noises. I scanned the error memory and it points to a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor. Plus, sometimes it feels like the gearbox is in emergency mode. Could this be the temperature sensor or something else?

Sounds similar to what I experienced with my Mini too, though mine is a Cooper. I had some rough gear shifting and the engine light came on. Did you check the gearbox oil level? That could be the gearbox sensor acting up because of low oil.

How did you check the gearbox oil level? Is it something I can do myself, or will I need to take my One to a shop?

I didn't check it myself because it can be a bit messy. However, based on your error codes and symptoms, it's very likely the gearbox sensor. If it’s the temperature sensor due to low oil, you might get away with just topping it up. If the sensor is faulty, it needs replacing. Best get it to a workshop to be sure with the automatic transmission.

Just wanted to update you: the garage confirmed it was the transmission oil temperature sensor. They also found the oil level was low, like you suggested. All fixed for 365€! Thanks for the help!
