Mini One Diesel Cooling System Problem

Alright, diving deep into this cooling system conundrum on my 2019 Mini One diesel. The air conditioning has given up the ghost. Symptoms include an error stored in the error memory, no cooling whatsoever, the AC system refusing to switch on, and a rather annoying warning light in the speedometer. Now, my initial hunch, based on some research, is a defective AC control unit. The estimated repair cost is around 980€, which stings a bit. Before I pull the trigger, has anyone encountered similar car air conditioning issues? Any thoughts on whether it could be something else before I commit to a new AC unit?

Sounds like AC unit issues can be a pain. Had something similar happen on my old Audi, though it was a refrigerant leak that took forever to find. Did you check the basics, like refrigerant pressure? Is the compressor clutch engaging at all? Could be a simple electrical fault there.

Good point about the compressor clutch. I assumed it was the AC control unit defective based on the stored error, but perhaps I jumped the gun. How did you pinpoint the refrigerant leak on your Audi? Did you use a dye or something?

Yeah, I used a UV dye kit to find the leak. It was a slow one, so it took a few goes to spot it. But if your compressor isn't even kicking in, and you have a fault code pointing to the AC unit, it probably is the control unit. Best bet is to get a proper diagnostic done at a workshop to confirm before replacing parts.

Update After a thorough diagnostic at a trusted independent shop, it turned out to be a faulty AC compressor, just as initially suspected. Replacing it, along with a system recharge, did the trick. Now it's blowing ice cold again. Thanks for your input and confirmation; it helped me focus my troubleshooting efforts!
