Mini One diesel AdBlue issue

Yeah, a friend with some diagnostic equipment checked it, and that's the error that came up. Is there anything I can check myself before taking it to a mechanic? I'm not really a car expert, but I'm willing to try simple things.

Okay, if a diagnostic tool pointed to that specific issue with the AdBlue system, it's very likely the culprit. Honestly, messing with the AdBlue system, especially the dosing unit and SCR catalyst, can be tricky. You could check the AdBlue tank for leaks, but without proper tools and knowledge, you could make things worse. My advice? Bite the bullet and get it to a trusted mechanic. It sounds like a blocked DEF fluid line or a faulty pump, and they'll have the right tools to diagnose and fix it properly. Ignoring it could cause more expensive damage down the road!

Just wanted to give you an update. It was indeed the AdBlue system. Got it fixed for around 260€. Thanks for the help!

Woah, that sounds like a pain! If the service light is on and you're getting a dashboard alert about the DEF fluid, and now the engine won't even start, it's pretty serious. The SCR catalyst system is there to keep the emissions standards in check, so the car is probably blocking the engine start to avoid pumping out too much bad stuff. When you say "Ad-Blue output from tank to dosing unit defective", what makes you think that's the issue? Did you run a diagnostic or something?
