Mini Countryman Start Stop Issues

Okay, so my 2013 Mini Countryman, a gasoline model, is throwing a fit. The start-stop system isn't working. I get an error stored in the computer, and sometimes the engine just shuts off at traffic lights – super annoying! The eco mode is basically useless. Plus, there's a warning light on the speedometer constantly staring at me. From what I've read, it might be a heavily discharged or defective car battery. Has anyone else experienced this kind of engine stalling? Any thoughts before I take it in?

I had a similar issue with my Volvo a while back. The start-stop system relies heavily on battery health. When the battery voltage drops too low, the system disables itself to ensure reliable engine start. Does the error memory specify anything about battery voltage or charge status?

The error code just says 'Start-stop system malfunction'. How did you figure out it was the car battery on your Volvo? Was it the same error, or something else?

My Volvo displayed a similar, generic message related to the start-stop system. After some digging, a low voltage error was stored deep in the system's diagnostics, inaccessible without proper tools. Given your symptoms, a discharged or defective battery is the most probable cause. I would recommend visiting a workshop for a proper diagnosis and battery test.

Took the Countryman to the shop. Turns out the car battery was indeed the culprit, just like you thought. New battery installed, start-stop is working again. Cost me 290€, but at least it's fixed. Thanks for the help!
