Yes, the spongy pedal was definitely there. The worn pads require more fluid to compensate, hence the lower level and feel. Best to get it checked at a workshop, though, just to be safe. A simple fluid replacement won't solve the worn pads issue.

Took your advice and had it checked out. Turns out the brake pads were indeed quite worn, causing the low fluid level and spongy pedal. Had them replaced, along with a fluid replacement, and the hydraulic brakes feel fantastic again. Total cost came to 480€. Thanks for the help!

I had a similar issue with my Mini Countryman. Check your brake pads. As they wear, the brake fluid level drops. Do you have any warning light on?
