Mini Countryman Diesel Engine Issues

I'm seeking some insight regarding a perplexing issue with my 2012 Mini Countryman diesel. Lately, the engine has been exhibiting poor starting behavior, coupled with diminished engine power and increased fuel consumption. Furthermore, the engine idles unevenly and occasionally stalls, particularly when cold. My suspicion is a defective injection nozzle, potentially due to fouling. Could a dirty injector valve plausibly account for these multifaceted symptoms?

I had similar symptoms with my Mini, though it's a gasoline engine, not diesel. It also had a noticeable drop in performance. Have you checked for any error codes? A misfire could definitely point to a fuel delivery issue. Maybe try some fuel injector cleaner first? It's a cheap option before considering replacement.

Thanks for the quick reply! Error codes are pointing to the injection system, but not a specific cylinder. The fuel injector cleaner is a good idea. How long did you run the injector cleaner before you noticed any difference? Or before you decided to take it in for repair?

In my case, the cleaner didn't really fix it, just masked the problem for a short while. I eventually had to get the injector replaced. Given that your error codes are pointing to the injection system in general, and you're experiencing multiple symptoms like poor starting and uneven idling, I'd suggest getting it properly diagnosed by a workshop. Could save you money in the long run, rather than chasing a potentially temporary solution.

Just wanted to update this thread. Took the Countryman to the workshop, and they confirmed a faulty injection nozzle. Replacement and labor came to 515€. The poor starting, rough idle, and fuel consumption problems are now resolved. Thanks for the input!
