Mini Countryman Auto Transmission Issues

So my 2019 Mini Countryman diesel is throwing a proper wobbler. Got km on the clock, and suddenly the automatic transmission is playing up. Won't start, check engine light's on, gearbox is shifting like it's stirring treacle, and the error memory is chock full. Suspect it's the auto transmission control unit. Anyone else had similar issues? I'm thinking it's gonna cost around 1000€ to sort, does that sound about right? The park brake seems to be engaged. The gear shifter feels loose. Any insights before I bite the bullet and take it to a garage?

Sounds like a dodgy control unit alright. Does it happen in neutral position too? And did you check the shift lock solenoid?

Good shout on the neutral position, hadn't explicitly tried that. As for the shift lock solenoid, how would I go about checking that? Got a multimeter and basic tools, but not sure where to start.

If it's happening in neutral too, and you're getting weird shifting, plus the error codes, chances are it's the control unit. The shift lock solenoid can sometimes cause issues with getting out of park, but usually not the other symptoms you're describing. At that mileage, and with those symptoms, I'd say the control unit is the prime suspect. Best get it checked by a workshop.

Big thanks for confirming my suspicions. Dropped it off at the workshop this morning. They ran diagnostics and, yep, the auto transmission control unit is fried. Quoted me pretty much exactly what I was expecting, around 1000€. Should be back on the road next week. Appreciate the help!
