Mini Cooper Power Steering Problems

Alright, I'm officially stumped. My 2004 Mini Cooper diesel is having major power steering issues. The steering wheel is vibrating like crazy, the handling feels spongy, and there's an error stored. Plus, it's getting harder and harder to steer feels like the power steering is failing. I've read it could be a defective cable or plug connection. Any ideas before I lose my mind?

Whoa, sounds rough! I had something similar happen with my Mini Cooper. Steering wheel was all over the place. Have you checked the hydraulic fluid level? Could also be a pressure hose issue. Just spitballing here, but it's worth a look!

Interesting! When you say 'all over the place', was it vibrating too? And did you also notice the steering felt kind of spongy? Was there any error stored in the error memory?

Yeah, vibrating steering wheel big time, and spongy is a good way to describe it. I didn't check the error memory myself to be honest. I just took it straight to a workshop. They mentioned something about the wheel alignment too, and maybe the steering rack but I'm not sure. Better get it checked out by someone who knows their stuff!

Just wanted to update you, it was indeed a defective cable or plug connection! Cost me 95€ to get it sorted. Thanks again for the input!
