Mini Cooper Oxygen Sensor Issue

I've encountered an issue with my 2017 Mini Cooper, gasoline engine, currently at 47741 km. The check engine light is on, and the error memory indicates an oxygen sensor heater failure. Symptoms include higher fuel consumption. From what I've gathered, the likely culprit is a defective cable or plug connection. Any insights before I start tearing things apart?

Oxygen sensor heater failure, huh? Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Mini Cooper, though I can't recall the exact mileage at the time. The check engine light was on, and the car was definitely thirstier than usual. Have you checked the sensor's wiring and the plug connection itself? Sometimes it's just a loose or corroded connection. Think of it like a loose wire on a lamp, sometimes it just needs a wiggle to work, sometimes not.

Thanks for the quick reply. When you say 'similar issue,' do you mean the error code pointed specifically to the heater circuit of the oxygen sensor? And did you manage to fix it yourself, or did you end up taking it to a workshop?

Yes, the error code pointed to the oxygen sensor heater circuit specifically. I tried cleaning the contacts, but no luck. Eventually, I took it to a workshop. They confirmed it was the wiring, though I couldn't pinpoint the exact location of the break. Considering the specialized tools and knowledge required to properly diagnose and repair wiring issues in the exhaust system, taking it to professionals is probably the best course of action.

Just wanted to close the loop on this oxygen sensor issue. As suggested, I took it to a workshop. Turns out the cable connection to the sensor was indeed faulty. They replaced the connector, and the air-fuel ratio is back to normal, check engine light is off now. Total cost was 95€. Thanks for your help!
