No recent work or updates that I'm aware of. The error message popped up out of nowhere. When you say 'similar issue,' was the eventual cause also the car's coding? And did you need to replace any parts, or was it just a reprogramming fix?

Yes, in my case, it was definitely the coding. The garage said something about the control module needing to be reconfigured. I didn't need any new parts, luckily. If it's just the coding, hopefully, you won't either. Though, honestly, it's best to get it checked at a workshop. They can pinpoint the exact cause and ensure everything is set up correctly.

Took your advice and went to the workshop. Turns out the car's coding was indeed messed up somehow. They recoded the control module, cleared the fault code, and the check engine light is gone. Cost me 360€, but at least it's fixed! Thanks again for the help, really appreciate it.

Interesting. I had a similar issue with my Cooper; although it's not a 2012 model. The malfunction indicator light kept popping up, and the OBD-II scanner showed some weird fault code related to the car's computer. Did you recently have any work done on the car's electrical system, or perhaps any software updates?
