Mini Cooper Engine Trouble

My 2010 Mini Cooper is giving me headaches The check engine light is illuminated, and it also stored an error. I've noticed a significant drop in fuel efficiency lately. Could this be related to an aged oxygen sensor A defective cable or plug connection has been suggested as a likely cause

Hey, I had a similar issue with my Cooper. The check engine light was on, and the car drank fuel like there was no tomorrow. Turned out to be the upstream automotive sensor. Have you checked the exhaust sensor?

Interesting When you say 'upstream sensor', do you mean the one before or after the catalytic converter Just want to be sure I am looking at the right O2 sensor

Yes, by upstream, I mean the exhaust sensor before the catalytic converter. Given your symptoms, a defective connection is probable. My advice would be to get it checked out at a workshop. Better safe than sorry

Problem solved It was indeed the O2 sensor, or rather, a defective plug connection as suspected. I took it to the workshop, and they confirmed it. The repair set me back 95€. Many thanks for your help
