Thanks for the tips! Where exactly is the brake light switch located, and do you know which fuse in the fuse box is for the cruise control on the Mini Cooper?

The brake light switch is typically located near the brake pedal. As for the fuse, I am not sure which one is the exact fuse for the cruise control circuit, and it could be in different locations depending on the specific configuration of your car. I would recommend checking the car's manual; it should have a fuse diagram. If you are still unsure I would recommend bringing it to a workshop to have it diagnosed; it will be cheaper in the long run than replacing the clock spring

Just wanted to update this thread. The Mini went to the workshop, and they found a defective cable/plug connection as suspected. 95€ later, cruise control is back in action. Thanks for your help and suggestion!

I had a similar problem with my Mini, although it wasn't the diesel version. First thing I'd check is the brake light switch. A faulty switch can prevent the cruise control from engaging, as the system thinks you're always braking. Also, have you checked the fuse box for a blown fuse related to the cruise control system? It's a simple check that might save you some time and money.
