Mini Clubman AC Issues

My 2008 Mini Clubman is presenting with a rather annoying issue. The air conditioning no longer cools, and the system refuses to engage. I'm seeing a warning light illuminated in the speedometer. I've scanned the error memory, and it's pointing towards a refrigerant compressor failure, potentially stemming from a defective air conditioning control unit. Has anyone else experienced this? Could the control unit be the culprit behind the AC compressor problem?

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Clubman's AC compressor last summer. Error codes galore. First, are you sure it's not just a refrigerant leak? Have you checked the pressure?

Refrigerant leak was the first thing I considered, but a pressure test came back clean. The error memory points towards the AC control unit. Did your symptoms also include the warning light in the speedometer? Was your AC system completely unresponsive, like mine?

Yep, sounds like my saga. The AC system was completely dead, light on the dash and all. If the pressure test is good, and the error codes point to the control unit, you're probably looking at a replacement. I'd suggest getting a quote from a reputable workshop. Good luck!

Much obliged for the confirmation. Turns out the diagnosis was spot on. Ended up replacing the AC compressor and, as suspected, the control unit as well. Cost me 980€ all in. Now the automotive cooling is back. Lesson learned: don't ignore those warning lights.
