Thanks for the quick response. I did notice that the fuel consumption has increased recently. So, if it was the EGR valve on your car, did replacing it solve all the issues, including the check engine light and the increased fuel consumption? Also, did you have any problems with the emissions test?

Yes, replacing the EGR valve solved everything for me. The check engine light went off, the engine ran smoothly again, and the fuel consumption returned to normal. No issues with the emissions test after that. It's a fairly common problem, especially if you do a lot of short trips. It might be worth getting it checked out by a workshop to confirm.

Just wanted to give you an update. Took the Mini to a workshop as you suggested, and they confirmed it was the EGR valve. They replaced it, and the car is running much better now. No more smoke or jerking. Cost me 355€, but it's worth it to have the car back to normal. Thanks for your help!

Sounds like you might have a problem with your EGR valve. I had similar symptoms with my Mini Cabrio: rough running, check engine light, and even some hesitation when accelerating. Have you noticed any change in fuel consumption? If the EGR valve is stuck open, it's like constantly running with the choke on.
