Mini Cabrio Diesel O2 Sensor Issue

I am writing because I am experiencing an issue with my 2014 Mini Cabrio Diesel. The check engine light has illuminated, and my fuel consumption has noticeably increased. I scanned the error memory, and it shows a problem with the O2 sensor. From what I have read, a defective cable or plug connection could be the culprit. I am trying to avoid unnecessary repairs. Does anyone have experience with such issues on a Mini? I read that the repair cost should be around 95€. I'd appreciate any advice before I take it to the workshop.

Hello there! I had a similar issue with my Mini Cabrio not too long ago. The check engine light was on, and the car seemed to be drinking more fuel than usual. Have you checked the exhaust system for any visible damage or leaks? Also, which error code is stored in the error memory?

Thanks for the quick response! I haven't noticed any visible damage, but I will take a closer look at the exhaust system tomorrow. The error code indicates a problem with the O2 sensor. When you had this problem, was it also the exhaust sensor itself that needed replacing, or was it something else?

In my case, the O2 sensor was fine. It turned out to be a corroded connector on the exhaust sensor. Think of it like a loose wire on a lamp – the lamp won't work even if the bulb is perfectly fine. I would recommend checking the connections thoroughly before replacing the sensor. However, if you are not comfortable doing that, it might be best to take it to a workshop. They can diagnose the problem accurately and prevent you from spending money on unnecessary parts.

Just wanted to give you a quick update. You were spot on! I took my Mini Cabrio to the workshop, and it turned out to be a faulty connection to the exhaust sensor. They replaced the plug, and the error is gone. The check engine light is off, and I am hoping my fuel efficiency will improve now. The final bill was 95€, exactly as expected. Thanks a bunch for your help!
