Mini 2018 Countryman: Engine light on, reduced power and unsteady running

Shaking while idling

Unsteady engine

Greetings, I have a strange problem with my diesel Mini 2018 Countryman. The check engine light is on, there is a lack of engine power and the engine is running rough. When accelerating it jerks and hisses loudly, when idling it almost cuts out and it shakes. I think the boost pressure sensor could be faulty. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms before and could give me some troubleshooting tips? It would be particularly interesting to know how the garage solved the problem. Many thanks in advance!

Hi, this sounds like something I experienced once with my Mini 2016 Clubman. I'm not a mechanic, but my problem was mechanical damage to the turbocharger. I went to my regular garage, they diagnosed the problem and replaced the turbocharger completely. That cost me around 1070 euros. Maybe that's the case for you too? It sounds pretty similar. Can you tell us a bit more about your car? How many kilometers have you got on it and when was your last oil change? The more information we have, the better we can help you. Hope that helps you. Good luck, buddy!

Thank you very much for your answer. My Mini Countryman has now run about 39950 km. The last oil change was done about 6000 km ago. But now that you mention the turbocharger thing, I remember it started whistling recently, which I've been ignoring. Maybe it is the turbocharger after all, I'll have it checked at the garage. It makes sense what you say as the symptoms are pretty similar. Thanks again for your helpful tip mate!

Hi, I recently had a similar problem with my 2017 Mini Cooper. I had exactly the same symptoms, jerking and hissing when accelerating, loss of engine power and shuddering at idle. I also suspected a faulty boost pressure sensor and I was right! At my garage, the defect was actually found in the boost pressure sensor. They first tried to clean it, but the problem persisted. So they replaced the boost pressure sensor and since then the Mini has been running like new again. That was at around 48,000 km. The whole thing cost me 265 euros. I'm no expert, but based on my experience, I would recommend checking your boost pressure sensor. It could well be that this is your problem too. Good luck, dude!

Thanks for your reply. It's interesting to hear that you had similar symptoms and that it was actually the boost pressure sensor. I think I'll have both things, the turbocharger and the boost pressure sensor, checked at the garage. Better safe than sorry, isn't it? Your experience has helped me a lot, so I can go to the garage with precise instructions. It's a bit reassuring to know that other Mini owners have had similar problems. I hope it's nothing too bad and if it is, I hope it won't be that expensive. Thanks again for your helpful tip!

Hello! I would say your Mini 2018 Countryman’s issues (check engine light, loss of power, rough running, jerking, hissing) could stem from a faulty boost pressure sensor, turbocharger problems, EGR valve issues, or vacuum leaks. A diagnostic scan and component tests at a garage will help pinpoint and resolve the issue.

Hello, I jumped a few weeks ago failure in mini countryman one d 2017 "m asa circuit A performance or volume of air flow". But I have not noticed or lower the power or sounds or anything strange to the car and tell me to change the flowmeter tab. But if I haven't noticed any change in power or anything is what makes me disappointed.
