Thanks for the detailed response! My City has done 31064 KM and just had its service last month. I'm actually quite worried about those metal shavings too. The timing of this issue is really frustrating since it's so soon after the service. I'm wondering if something wasn't done properly during the service that could've caused this. Really appreciate your advice about not waiting, I'll get it checked out ASAP. Just hoping it won't lead to a major repair job!
Hey again! Yeah, I totally get your frustration about this happening right after a service, that's super annoying! My Civic had similar mileage when I faced this issue. You know what? Since you mentioned it happened right after the service, I'm wondering if they might have messed something up during the oil change. When I had my problem, it turned out the service center had used some generic oil that wasn't meeting Honda's specs. Listen, I really think you should go back to wherever did your last service and have them check it out. If they're a decent shop, they should at least look into it without charging you since it's so soon after their work. That's what happened with me, my mechanic admitted the mistake and fixed it at no extra cost. Just a heads up though, don't drive it too much with those metal shavings floating around. I made that mistake with my Civic and ended up causing more wear than necessary. The oil light and metal shavings combo is definitely not something to ignore. Keep me posted on what you find out. Really curious to know if it's the same issue I had!
Thanks so much for the solid advice! You've actually made me feel a bit better about the whole situation. I just called the service center and they agreed to check it out tomorrow morning, they seemed concerned when I mentioned the metal shavings and timing of the issue. You're right about not driving it much, I've decided to get it towed there just to be safe. Really hoping it's just a wrong oil type situation like yours and not something more serious. I'll definitely push them to check if they used the correct oil specs for my Honda. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it's honestly helped me figure out how to handle this! I'll update the thread once I know what's going on with my car.
Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2005 Honda Civic (also owned an Accord before). I've got some experience working on cars, but I'm no expert. The symptoms you described sound exactly like what I dealt with. Turned out someone had used the wrong type of engine oil during a previous service. The metal shavings were a scary sight! I immediately took it to my trusted mechanic, and they had to do a complete oil system flush, replace the oil filter, and refill with the correct oil specification. The whole thing cost me around 175 Euro, but it was worth every penny to prevent further engine damage. Before I can give more specific advice, How many miles/kilometers on your engine? When was your last oil change? What type of oil is currently in your engine? Trust me, don't wait on this one, those metal shavings aren't a good sign.
