Hey, thanks for sharing your experience, sounds really similar to what I'm dealing with! I ended up taking mine to the dealer too and you were spot on about the oil pump issues. Really curious, do you remember roughly how much the whole repair set you back? And has everything been running smoothly since then, or did you notice any other problems pop up?
Hey there! Yeah, after getting my Outlander fixed up at the dealer, everything's been running like a charm. The total bill came to around €625 for replacing the faulty oil pump and doing a thorough system flush. The contamination issue was completely resolved, no more metal particles in the oil, which was a huge relief! Since getting it sorted, I've put another 15,000 km on the clock without any problems. No more warning lights, weird noises, or overheating problems. The engine's running cool and quiet, just like it should. I'm actually really glad I went with the dealer on this one, they knew exactly what they were doing. Just make sure to keep an eye on your oil levels and maybe get them to do an early oil change just to be on the safe side. But honestly, once they fix that oil pump, you should be good to go. Money well spent in my opinion, beats having to deal with a completely fried engine!
Thanks so much for the detailed follow-up! Just got my car back from the dealer yesterday, and you were totally right about everything. The repair was a bit pricier for me, around €800, but they found some additional wear that needed fixing. Honestly, it was worth every penny! The whole experience wasn't as bad as I feared. They were super professional and even showed me the damaged parts to explain what went wrong. My mechanic anxiety definitely got the better of me at first, but the dealer really knew their stuff. The car's running beautifully now, no more scary warning lights or weird noises. It's such a relief! I took it for a good test drive today, and it feels like I've got a new car. Thanks again for helping me make the right call on going to the dealer. I'll definitely be sticking with them for future services too. Think I'll stop worrying so much now and just enjoy having my car back in proper working order!
I experienced very similar issues with my 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander last summer. The metal shavings in the oil and overheating turned out to be a failing oil pump that was causing inadequate lubrication. This led to accelerated wear on several engine components. My local Mitsubishi dealer found that the oil pump's internal components were deteriorating, allowing metal particles to circulate through the engine. They had to replace the oil pump, flush the entire oil system, and inspect for additional damage. It was quite serious since continued driving could have led to complete engine failure. I'd strongly suggest taking it to an authorized Mitsubishi dealer in your area. These symptoms aren't something you want to risk with an inexperienced shop. My repair required specialized diagnostic equipment to properly assess the damage.
