Metal in Oil: Proudia Hybrid Showing Major Red Flags

Loss of engine power

Weird engine noise

Poor fuel economy

Valve adjustment noise

Unsteady engine

Metal shavings in oil

Check engine light on

Jerking on acceleration

Hey everyone, got a bit worried about my 2013 Mitsubishi Proudia Hybrid (84.5K km). The engine's acting up lately, check engine light, power loss, rough idling, and some nasty jerking when accelerating. Also noticed some metal bits in the oil and strange noises from the valve area. Fuel consumption has gone through the roof too. Had a not-so-great experience with my last mechanic, so I'm a bit hesitant about where to take it. Anyone dealt with similar symptoms, especially related to camshaft issues? Would really appreciate hearing about your experiences and trusted mechanic recommendations. Thanks in advance!

Hey there, I had similar issues with my 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV (hybrid) last summer. The symptoms you're describing sound very familiar, I experienced the same power loss, jerking, and rough idling. My check engine light was also on. Took it to my trusted mechanic, and it turned out to be a faulty camshaft position sensor and a damaged solenoid valve. The metal particles in the oil were particularly concerning as they indicated some internal wear. The repair involved replacing the camshaft sensors, solenoid valve, and a thorough oil system flush. It was definitely a serious issue that needed immediate attention to prevent further engine damage. For hybrid systems like ours, it's crucial to find a mechanic who specializes in hybrid powertrains. I go to Dave's Auto in the west end, they're certified for hybrid repairs and really know their stuff. Best of luck with your Proudia, don't wait too long on this one.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! This definitely sounds like what I'm dealing with right now. If you don't mind me asking, how much did the total repair end up costing you? And has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other issues pop up? Really appreciate the tip about Dave's Auto too.

Hey again! Glad to give you an update! Since getting my Outlander PHEV fixed at Dave's, it's been running like a dream. The whole camshaft adjustment issue is completely sorted, they replaced one of those pesky neck shaft solenoid valves that was acting up (turned out there was no power getting to it). The bill came to 250€, which honestly wasn't as bad as I was expecting for a hybrid repair. I've put about 15,000 km on it since the fix, and everything's been silky smooth, no more jerking, weird noises, or power issues. Fuel economy is back to normal too, which is a huge relief for my wallet! Dave's team really knew what they were doing with the hybrid system. Sometimes these issues can be tricky to diagnose, but they nailed it right away. If you're still looking for a reliable place, I can't recommend them enough. Let me know if you need any other details about the repair. Always happy to help out a fellow Mitsubishi owner!

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! I actually went ahead and took your advice about Dave's Auto, you were absolutely right about them. Just got my car back yesterday, and wow, what a difference! Turns out I had pretty much the same issue as you, faulty camshaft sensor and some valve problems. They found a bit more wear and tear than expected, but they sorted everything out. Bill came to around 300€, slightly more than yours because they had to replace an additional part, but totally worth it. The car's running amazingly now, no more jerking, weird noises are gone, and the engine feels smooth as butter. That power loss issue has completely disappeared too. Honestly, I'm just relieved to have found a reliable mechanic who actually knows their stuff with hybrids. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, it definitely helped me make the right decision. Feels good to have this sorted out finally! Thanks again for all your help!
