Hey, no problem, always happy to help! I paid €365 to have the cable connection on the gear selector lever repaired. So it wasn't exactly a bargain, but the problem with the strange gearshift hasn't recurred since. So in the end, the visit to the mechanic was really worth it. But of course, you don't want to be in the workshop all the time. Hopefully it will be a one-off trip for you. Good luck to you!

Great, thanks for your quick reply. It's reassuring to hear that the problem didn't recur after the repair. 365 is indeed a lot of money, but if it's really worth it, I'm prepared to invest it. So I will take my Vito to the garage soon and hope that it will only be necessary once. Thank you for your encouragement and I hope I'm as lucky as you were. All the best!

Hello, I actually had a very similar problem with my 2002 Mercedes Sprinter. The check engine light was also on and the gearshift was totally crazy. In my case, the cable connection on the selector lever was damaged. Unfortunately, this is a serious problem. It was quite a job for me to repair it. But afterwards everything ran like clockwork again and I had no more problems. So make sure you have it checked if you have these symptoms. Don't get stuck. Hope this helps you!
