Mercedes GLS petrol engine 2017: Symptoms of engine problems and possible leaks in the intake system

Shaking while idling

Loud hissing on acceleration

Unsteady engine

Check engine light on

Loss of engine power

Jerking on acceleration

Hello folks! I drive a Mercedes GLS class gasoline, year of manufacture 2017 with about 110,761 km mileage. My cart is now showing symptoms like: Check Engine lights up, loss of engine power, the engine is rough, jerks when accelerating, hisses loudly and the car shakes when idling. I suspect the problem could be a leak in the intake system. Has anyone had similar experiences? What has been your experience with your garage with such problems? I would be grateful for any advice, as my last visit to the mechanic was rather unpleasant.

Hello buddy! You're right, the symptoms sound like a leaking intake hose. I drive a 2014 Mercedes C-Class petrol car and recently had a similar problem. The check engine light came on and the engine ran totally rough. It was a real scare! Just as you suspect, my problem was caused by a leaking intake hose. They were able to check it quite quickly at my garage. They replaced the hose and since then my Benz has been running like clockwork again. No more engine light, no more running out of round. It was probably a classic, I was told that this is not an isolated case. Make sure you get it checked at the garage as soon as possible. The longer you wait, the worse it can get. But don't worry, as far as I know it's not a mega-serious problem, it's just annoying. Hope this helps you! Good luck, buddy!

Hi. Thanks for sharing your experience, that sounds pretty much like what my Mercedes is going through. It's more or less stranded in the garage until they figure out what's wrong. Well, I'm confident it's the intake hose. One more question for you: Do you happen to remember how much the hose change cost you at the mechanic? And have you encountered any other problems since then? I'm trying to gather a round figure for expenses, and it would be great to know what I can expect. Thanks in advance!

Hey, I'm glad I could help you. So fixing the intake system was actually no big deal. The leaking intake hose was replaced at my garage and after that all the problems disappeared. Since then everything has been great, my car is running smoothly again and the engine light is no longer on. Now to the costs: I paid 100 euros to have the intake hose repaired. That's what the garage charged me. So the price was also completely reasonable and much more pleasant than my last visit to the garage. But as I said before, make sure you tackle it soon. Good luck with it!

Great, that sounds good! I'm really relieved that it doesn't seem to be a big problem and won't be as expensive as I feared. 100 euros is still reasonable. I can sleep better knowing that. The work will start tomorrow in the workshop, I hope it goes as smoothly as it did for you. Thanks again for your advice and your experience reports. They really came at the right time and have helped me a lot. Seems like I made the right move by asking this question here. Thanks again and have a safe journey!

I have this error vide on my 2012 w246 Mercedes B200 with the 651.901 turbo diesel engine. I have removed and checked alle the intake pipes and hoses complete from the turbo and on to the airbox and from the turbo through the intercooler and there are no holes or a damage to any parts. The seals and gaskets all look intact end flexible. I have chanced the iat sensor and the turbo pressure sensor - No luck. Maybe i should change the maf? Any advice?

It sounds like you've done a thorough job checking the intake system and sensors. Before you go ahead and replace the MAF sensor, I would suggest checking the EGR valve. It's possible that it's stuck open, which could cause the symptoms you're describing. If the EGR valve is functioning properly, then it might be worth looking into the MAF sensor. Please keep us updated on your progress. Do you have any other questions?
