Mazda Demio 2001 Wiper Issue: Possible Rain-Light Sensor Problem and Workshop Recommendations

Wipers don't work properly

Hey, my 2001 Mazda Demio with a Gasoline engine has started to act up. Specifically, the wipers aren't doing their job as well as they used to. I suspect the rain-light sensor might be causing some trouble, but I'd really appreciate any insights you all might have. Anyone ever faced something similar or have any tips for diagnosing this issue? Also interested in hearing about your experience with the workshop and how theyaged to fix this. Cheers!

Hey there, I have a '99 Mazda Axela, so pretty similar to yours. I ain't a car expert but I've got some experience with these things. I had the same goof up, bubbles forming under the gel pad on the windshield. It was a real bother, impairing my wipers as well. Had to get it to the local garage and ended up paying around 62€. They did a decent job and haven't faced that issue since. I'd recommend going to a workshop you're comfortable with. Just curious, did you notice if the issue’s worse in heavy rain? This might sound basic but try checking the sensor’s position, might give a clue about what's up. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the advice! That's pretty similar to what I've been experiencing. The issue does seem to be worse in heavy rain now that you mention it. I’ll definitely give the sensor's position a check as you suggested and let's see if I can spot anything unusual. My Mazda's last service was at 160443 KM so it might be due for a check-up anyway. A trip to my trusted mechanic seems to be in order. Appreciate the help and will keep you posted!

No problem! Yeah, with the heavy rain bit it does seem to hint at the sensor. Remember, the rain-light sensor is critical to the windshield wipers working correctly, especially during downpours. Based on my previous experience, it's always better to get the issues addressed rather than trying to tough it out, you know? Pretty sure your trusted mechanic can sort this out. Additionally, let me add - sometimes the wiper blades themselves could be a problem. Mine got all worn out and streaky once, which messed up with the wipers' work. Since your Mazda has pretty similar make like mine, might be worth it to have a quick look-see at the wiper blades too. Await your updates. All the best!

Thanks again! You've been incredibly helpful. I think you're right, it's not worth risking it, taking it to a mechanic is the way forward. I didn't think about the wiper blades, I'll add that to the list of things to check. You saved me a lot of trouble. I'll post an update once everything is sorted. Cheers, and here's hoping for smoother rides ahead!
