Mazda CX8 Diesel 2023 Model Starting Issue: Possible Lock Malfunction

Car won't start

Vehicle starts briefly and goes out again

Heys, I'm having a bit of a headache with my 2023 diesel Mazda CX8. It's been refusing to start up properly - fires up for a moment, then dies again. Thought it could have something to do with a lock malfunction, but I'm not really sure. Have any of you experienced something similar, and if so, how did your mechanics deal with it? Appreciate all help and insights!

Hey! I can relate. I had a similar challenge with my 2021 petrol Mazda CX5. My car knowledge isn't bad, but I'm no pro. Took it to the garage, they found the key programming was incorrect. They fixed it in no time, cost me around 45€. Might be worth giving that a go. Out of interest, what mileage and maintenance history you have on your CX8? It'll be easier to guide you if I know more about your vehicle's condition.

Hey there, thanks for chiming in. My CX8's quite the workhorse, sitting at 89946 KM on the odometer now. As for the maintenance, I've been keeping up with all the regular servicing. The last service was done a couple of months ago, everything checked out fine then. If it's an issue with the key programming as you mentioned, I wonder how it just went off like that. But I guess that's machines for you, always throwing surprises. Cheers for the tip – I'll definitely look into it.

G'day again. Nice, your CX8 is certainly clocking up the KMs! So if you've been diligent with the regular services, it's odd you're having this problem. Might be one of those unlucky one-offs. In my case, it was indeed bizarre too when the key programming went out of blue, especially considering these models are known for their sturdiness. I still can't pinpoint exactly how or why it happened. One day the car was butter-smooth, next day, kaput. Given your mileage though, I'd encourage you to get the fuel systems and pump checked as well. Diesel engines can be a bit finicky with these components, more so with heavy use. And as you rightly said, machines can always surprise us, so it's better to cover all bases. Good luck with it, and do let us know how it turns out. I'm sure you'll be back on the road in no time!

Good on ya for the advice. I certainly didn't think about the fuel systems before, but that's a solid point considering the high mileage. I reckon I'll get both the key programming and the fuel systems checked out to be sure. Bit of a pickle, this one, but your advice has been nothing but helpful. Will keep you all posted when it's sorted. Till then, catch you on the flip side!
