Mazda CX8 Diesel 2022 Experiences Weak Battery and Flickering Lights Issues

Weak battery when starting the engine

Dim or flickering lights

Hey everyone, I've got a 2022 Mazda CX8, Diesel engine, with about 165,638 KM on it. Lately, I've been noticing some wonky stuff like a weak battery on startup, and my lights are either dim or flickering. I'm thinking overvoltage could be the culprit here, but I'm a bit leery of mechanics after a bad experience last time. Anyone dealt with a similar issue? How did your mechanic handle it? Would love to hear your thoughts and experiences. Thanks.

Hey, sounds rough! I've got a 2019 Mazda CX5 and faced somewhat the same pickle. My mechanic narrowed it down to a faulty alternator that wasn’t charging the battery efficiently. Plus, the battery itself was defective. Had to replace both the alternator as well as the battery. I reckon it's a fairly serious issue, as leaving it unchecked could lead to the battery failing completely. On a lighter note, once they were replaced, things were back to normal and those problems never resurfaced. So, it might be worth having a chat with a mechanic you trust about having a look at the alternator and battery in your ride. Good luck with that!

Hey, bad luck about the car troubles! Sounds like we're in the same boat with our Mazdas. Cheers for sharing about your alternator issue, seems spot on with what could be going wrong with mine. Can you remember how much you had to fork out to replace the alternator and battery? Also, since those fixes, have you had any other issues pop up? Wondering if this might be the start of a maintenance marathon... Thanks!

Hey there! Oh, the dreaded maintenance marathon, I hear ya. But no it's been smooth sailing since I had those bits sorted out. As for the cost, it was around 290.00 € total to get the defective battery problem squared away. About the overvoltage issue you mentioned earlier, it got fixed when I saw my mechanic — turned out to be related to the dodgy battery. So, if you're seeing something similar, chances are it's the same problem. I'd suggest taking it to a trusted mechanic as soon as you can. They should be able to diagnose it and give you a solid estimate for fixing it. Hang in there. I know dealing with car problems can be a pain, but once it's done, it's done. Hopefully, your Mazda'll be back to its best sooner rather than later. Keep us posted on how it goes!

You're a lifesaver! Thanks a ton for the insights. Glad to hear that your Mazda's been running smooth after those repairs. The price seems worth it for some peace of mind. I'll definitely get my car to a reliable mechanic ASAP, fingers crossed it's nothing more than the alternator and battery. Here's to hoping my Mazda will be back in action soon. Will keep you updated. Cheers!
