Mazda CX7: Unstable Lights and Weakening Battery Issues Likely Linked to Vehicle Battery Temperature Sensor

Dim or flickering lights

Weak battery when starting the engine

Hey! I got a 2010 Mazda CX7, petrol-fueled, clocked 169,943 KM and recently, it's been pulling some weird tricks on me. The lights have been dimming and flickering, and I've noticed the battery feels weak during startup. I got a hunch it might be related to the Vehicle battery temperature sensor, but I'm no expert. Had a rough time with my last mechanic, so before I roll the dice again, I'm searching for anyone who's faced similar issues and can share their experience. Specifically, I'd love to hear about your experience at the mechanic. How'd it pan out for you?

Hey there, I totally get what you're going through. Had a similar scenario with my 2007 Mazda CX9 a while back. Used to get these strange behavior from my car too - dim lights, the battery not catching up on cold mornings. I suspected it had to do with the battery, but wasn't remarkably sure what specifically was going wrong. Made my way to a garage and after a proper look, they told me the battery temperature sensor was defective. This issue was directly linked with my battery's poor performance and the dimming of lights. Turns out, this sensor is the one signaling the battery to charge more or less, depending on the temperature. So, if this little guy isn't working right, it can cause all sorts of battery-related issues. Getting it fixed wasn't a really a massive deal (though I'd thought it might be). They just replaced the faulty sensor. It's a small component but plays a huge role in the smooth functioning. After the replacement, the dim lights and weak battery issues disappeared. Been smooth sailing since then and didn't face any problem remotely close to the ones before. Hope this helps! Sure sounds like you might be dealing with a similar situation.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience. Sounds quite similar to what my beloved Mazda is showing up. So you reckon replacing the battery temperature sensor sorted the troubles out for you? That puts my mind at ease a bit. I'd imagined some horror story with major repairs on the horizon. You didn't mention though, how hard did this hit your wallet if you don't mind sharing? And did you face any subsequent issues after the sensor replacement or has your Mazda been behaving nicely since then?

Hey, yep, I reckon that fixing the bugger did indeed sort things out for my old Mazda. Honestly, I've been having a breeze ever since it got replaced, no problems at all. The wonky lights and weak battery startup, all those issues - just a past now! Now, when it comes to the damage to the wallet, wasn't as nasty as I'd feared. I shelled out 315 € for the whole fix - the replacement of the Vehicle battery temperature sensor. I know it sounds quite a chunk, but considering the peace of mind and trouble-free runs afterward, felt totally worth it! So far, it's been all smooth sailing and my car has been behaving like a well trained pet since the fix. Can't predict what the future holds, but I'm quite chuffed right now. Hope yours gets sorted out just as smoothly!

Well, can't thank you enough for sharing all those details! It's heartening to hear it wasn't as severe as I'd imagined. And, 315 € sounds not too shabby as long it saves me from the headache of these glitches. I think I'll scoot over to a trusty mechanic soon enough and get that sensor replaced. To many more years of smooth sailing with our Mazdas then, eh? Cheers for the help!
