Mazda CX5 2011 Heating/Cooling Issues and Mirror Defrosting Problem - Seeking Advice

Insufficient Cooling/Heating

Mirror doesn't defrost

Hey everyone, I'm having a bit of a weird issue with my 2011 Mazda CX5 with a petrol engine. I've been noticing that the heating/cooling isn't quite up to snuff, and for some reason, the mirror won't defrost. I'm thinking it might have something to do with a faulty cooling circuit water valve, but I'm really not sure. Has anyone else run into this problem and found a solution? I'm really interested to hear about your experiences, especially if you've had it fixed at a workshop. I could really use some tips or advice on how to approach this. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2009 Mazda3. I'm no car guru but have got some experience messing around with vehicles. I ended up taking mine to a local workshop. The mechanic found the issue was a defective cable connection or water valve plug. It set me back about 155 Euro, but it's been running smoothly ever since. Before I can dig deeper into your specific issue, could you let me know if your Mazda CX5 is a diesel or petrol engine model? Any additional info about your model could help me in sharing more relevant details. Cheers!

Thanks for the response! My Mazda CX5 is indeed a petrol engine. It's clocked about 115,695 km till date, and the last service was done a few months back. I think your possible issue of a defective cable connection aligns with my suspicions. I'll keep your experience in mind. Does anyone know if the cost differs much for a CX5 compared to a Mazda3? Cheers!

Hey again! Bummer about your troubles, but I'm glad to see you're tackling the issue head-on. Okay so for a petrol engine Mazda CX5, you're probably looking at a similar solution. The cooling circuit water valve or its connections could indeed be the culprit. Costs can vary, but if it is just a defective cable or valve as in my case with the Mazda3, don't think the price should differ too much given they're both Mazdas – we're probably talking in the ballpark of 150 to 200 Euro. But remember, it's always wise to get a quote from a couple of workshop places, as some might do the job cheaper. Also, ask them to confirm the problem before shelling out your cash. Nothing worse than fixing something that ain't the issue, right? I'd also suggest to keep an eye on any coolant leaks, overheating, or any unusual engine behavior. These could indicate other related issues that might impact your heating/cooling and defrosting functions. Hang in there. Hope your Mazda gets its mojo back soon. Drive safe!

Hey, that's really good advice! I appreciate the hint about getting various quotes, hadn't really thought about that. And you're right, would hate to waste money on fixing the wrong thing. I'll certainly keep an eye on the coolant and any unusual engine behavior, wouldn't want more concerns creeping up on me. Thanks once again for your help and insights. I'll keep you guys posted on how things progress with our beloved Mazda. Cheers for now and stay safe too!
