Mazda CX30 Diesel's Power Reduction and Fuel Consumption Issues - Possible Quantity Drift Compensation Reset?

Check engine light on

Shaking while idling

Loss of engine power

Engine shuts off by itself

Poor fuel economy

Car won't start

Jerking on acceleration

Hey! I've got a 2019 Mazda CX30 Diesel with around 222k mileage on it and I've been plagued with some gnarly issues. My engine's power has dwindled, and the check engine light's throwing a party on my dash. It unusually conks out and upon restart, it's jerking like crazy. Starting has become a chore and she's guzzling fuel more than usual. Even at idle, it is shaking like a leaf. I'm getting the feeling it's something to do with the quantity drift compensation needing a reset. Am I onto something here? Any of you guys had this happen to you and if so, how did your mechanic treat this problem? Could use some of your advice since my last encounter with a mechanic was far from sunshine and rainbows. Cheers!

Hey there! Looks like you're in a bit of a jam, eh? I had a '16 Mazda CX5 Diesel run into a similar problem a while back. The symptoms you described rang a bell, down to the horrendous shakes at idle. It was as temperamental as a snapping turtle, that car. Turned out, the culprit was indeed a defective injector, just like your suspicion. It was starving the engine of fuel, making the poor thing shudder and gasp for every drop of diesel it could get. So, in essence, it wasn't an issue with the quantity drift compensation. The mechanic had to replace the faulty injector, and he also recommended a comprehensive fuel system cleanup which eventually did the trick. Rough start, poor mileage, engine's diminished power, even those nasty shakes- all cleared up nicely. And by the time he was done patching her up, she was purring like a newly pampered kitty. It was a pretty significant issue that required immediate attention. Though, I must say, it was saved from getting into some seriously murky waters. Just remember better to face it head-on than let it simmer and blow the lid off. Best of luck with your Mazda. Hope it's nothing but smooth sailing from here on out. Don't let the buggers drag you down!

Hey there! Appreciate the detailed answer, really caught the gist of it. Your ordeal sounds familiar with my car's problem. My Mazda's behaving like a pint-sized earthquake at the moment, but what's a pet without tantrums, right? So it was the faulty injector, huh? I had a hunch about the quantity drift compensation but, seems I've been barking up the wrong tree. Hope mine's not too far down the road to get patched up. If I may ask, do you recall the repair bill for this mess? I'm dreading the inevitable trip to the mechanic and it'd be great to know the damage beforehand. Also, post-repair, did your car run into any similar issues or was it a once and done deal? Thanks again!

Hey again! You've got an attitude I can appreciate - a car's got to keep its owner on their toes! On the topic of the rogue injector, it wasn't too kind to my wallet I have to admit, wound up costing me around 515.00 €. It was quite the blow, but she's running smooth ever since. As for the drama with the quantity drift compensation, that needed to be reset too, but that got sorted out in the same trip to the mechanic. So, yeah, once and done, fingers cross, touch wood and all that jazz! I reckon you should prepare for something similar, but remember, each car's got its own stubborn character. Might be similar, might be a different beast, but find yourself a good mechanic and you'll feel less of the burn. Hope this gives you some idea! Best of luck with your own pint-sized earthquake. Cheers!

Brace for impact, then! Haha. I can relate so much to your comment about cars having their own stubborn character, and mine's been a prickly one alright. Your words have prepared me for what's to come. Thanks for your input! I'm just hoping I could settle this for around the same as you, fingers crossed as you said! It's comforting to know it was a one-time thing for you. Regarding the mechanic, I've found a reputable one through a 's recommendation. He should be able to help me out. I'll kick off my day tomorrow with that dreadful trip, hope to see my Mazda purring like a kitty too after the fix. Thanks again for the useful advice! Wish me luck, I'll need it. Cheers.
