Mazda BT Series Diesel: Oil Light and Metal Shavings Detected

Oil light on

Metal shavings in oil

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Hey! I've got a 2010 Mazda BT Series diesel with around 235k on the clock that's acting a bit peculiar these days. Not long ago my oil light popped on, and I've spotted some metal shavings in my oil. On top of that, a warning light's flashing on my speedometer. Last time I trusted a mechanic, it turned into a fiasco, so I'm hoping to arm myself with some intel before I dive into that debacle again. I'm suspecting it might be a dodgy oil level sensor signal. Anyone experience anything similar? What was your mechanics final word? Cheers for any insight you can give!

Hey there, I went through something similar with my '07 Mazda 3 a while back. Same story, oil light on and then the speedometer's warning light started flashing. Turned out the oil level sensor cable connection was indeed defective. As this was not a simple oil change, they had to take care of the sensor and get rid of those metal shavings. The work was a bit intricate because it involved adjusting everything back to ensure proper readings. In my case, it sure was a serious issue - those metal shavings can really stir up trouble in the long run. So yeah, take your Mazda to a garage you trust and get that checked out ASAP before it leads to a major headache! Best of luck hope this helps!

Hey there, Thanks for sharing your experience! Your situation sounds pretty similar, especially with the dodgy sensor and those pesky metal shavings. I really hope it's just the sensor issue for me, but better safe than sorry, right? Do you recall how much the fix set you back? And since that fix, have you had any unexpected issues popping up? Really appreciate your insight and the advice. Cheers!

Hey! Yep, your situation does hit quite close to home. After that visit to the mechanic it turned out that my hunch was spot on - it was indeed a bum oil level sensor signal. The mechanic sorted that sensor cable connection right out. As for the damage on the ol' wallet, it set me back 165€, but believe me when I say, it was money well spent. Nothing worse than an unexpected breakdown down the road, right? Since the fix, my trusty Mazda's been behaving just fine; no unexpected issues have cropped up so far and the speedo's warning lights have quit their flashing. Hoping your situation turns out similarly! All the best!

G'day Thanks heaps for the info! Your experience certainly has given me a good clue about what to expect. Seems like it is indeed a sensor issue on my end as well. I reckon I'm going to have my Mazda checked out by a mechanic pronto. And you are spot on - better to shell out that 165€ now rather than having an unpleasant surprise later on. Glad to hear your Mazda is doing well and no more flashing warnings are bugging you. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. Thanks again for the helpful insights. Cheers!
