Mazda BT Series Diesel 2020 Showing Signs of DPF and Glow Control Unit Issues

Car won't start

DPF regeneration failure

Pre-glow light won't turn off

Shaking while idling

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Longer cold start time

Hey! I'm driving a 2020 Mazda BT Series Diesel with a big 271661 KM on the clock. Lately, it's been acting up - black smoke billowing out when I gun the accelerator, a stubborn cold start, my DPF regen's messed up, it outright refuses to start at times, the pre-glow light's stuck on like a bad penny and it's got this shake while idling. I think there's something fishy with the glow control unit. Anyone here seen these symptoms before? What was your mechanic's take on it? Last time I dealt with mine, let's just say it wasn't a pleasant experience. Looking for some insights, cheers!

Hey there, I absolutely understand your frustration. Had a similar issue with my 2017 Mazda 3 Diesel. Seriously almost choked on my coffee one morning when it refused to kickstart. The culprit ended up being a defective wiring harness from the glow control unit to the digital diesel electronics, just as you've suspected. The number of issues I had, not much different from yours. Yes, it was a big pain; cold start, peculiar idle, the stuck pre-glow light, I had it all. And certainly, seeing black smoke was an "unforgettable" experience. This might be what you’re dealing with too since your symptoms sound eerily similar. My mechanic spent a good chunk of time replacing that thing. It's certainly a task and needs quite a bit of attention. The upside, once fixed, everything was back to normal. Everything was back to running smoothly, no more rough idling, no more black smoke, no more unpleasant surprises in the morning. Remember though, each car can be unique and a similar symptom doesn't always mean the same exact problem. A good mechanic is worth their weight in gold. So, make sure to share all symptoms and allow them to do all necessary checks. Best of luck with that repair I feel for ya. The struggle is real.

Hey! I'm relieved to hear you managed to sort out your issues - sounds like it was a real ordeal. So, you reckon it might be the wiring harness causing the problem. Makes sense, given the symptoms I'm dealing with. I do remember my mechanic mentioning something about the glow control unit last time we spoke, so I guess it's worth checking out. I’ve gotta query though was it a costly fix? Do you remember the rough ballpark of what you ended up paying? And since the issue's been resolved, did any other problems crop up or your beast's been purring like a kitten ever since? Cheers for the advice, really appreciate it. I'll definitely be thorough with the bloke who’s gonna check it out. Car troubles, don't we love 'em?

Hey, no worries at all, happy to help where I can. Absolutely, the problem in my Mazda turned out to be the wiring harness related to the glow control unit. Cost-wise, I remember it set me back a fair bit, around 155.00 € to be exact. But I tell you, it was worth every penny. Ever since it was sorted, my trusty steed's been running like a dream. The mechanic did a solid job, addressing that defect in the glow control unit. No more erratic behaviour - from stubborn cold starts, the DPF regen meddling, or that nasty black smoke on high rev. That irksome shake at idle’s also history, and it fires up like a champ now, even in the dead of winter. So in short, my beast is back to her prime, growing stronger ever since the issue was tackled. But remember touch wood, it's always wise to stay sharp to any odd signs – that’s the charm of our roaring beasts, isn't it? You'll have to cross your fingers and hope it's the same problem. Definitely don't skimp on a thorough check or two from the mechanic. Remember, cheap work isn’t good, and good work isn’t cheap. Here's to your Mazda purring again in no time, good luck!

Thanks for getting back to me and for sharing your story. It's reassuring to know that your Mazda's been good as gold since getting that wiring harness and glow control unit sorted out. It's a bit hefty on the wallet, won't lie, but I reckon it's a small price to pay for peace of mind and smooth rides. I'm with you on staying vigilant for any odd signs - these machines sure have peculiar ways of telling us when they need a bit of TLC, don't they? Here's to hoping my beast's problem is the same, and with a thorough check and right fix, she'll be back in form, tearing up the bitumen like a champ once more. Thanks a ton for all your insights, they've been super helpful. Will definitely be keeping your words of wisdom in mind when I see the mechanic next. Now, fingers crossed and on to getting this hunk of metal back on track. Cheers!
