Mazda Axela Diesel 2019 Overheating Issue and Possible Electric Coolant Pump Malfunction - Seeking Advice and Experience

Overheating

|

Check engine light on

Hey fellow car gurus, I'm having a bit of a head scratcher with my 2019 Mazda Axela Diesel. Noticed it's been overheating and the check engine light has popped on recently. I'm guessing it might be due to an electric coolant pump malfunction, but would appreciate if anyone else has had this issue and have any specific troubleshooting tips? Especially keen to hear if anyone got this fixed at a garage and what the experience was like. Cheers for any help you can give.

Hey! I reckon I had a similar issue with my 2017 Mazda Atenza Diesel, just a couple of years older than your Axela. I'm no expert, more on the some experience side of things when it comes to cars. Took it to my local workshop, had them poke around under the hood. Turned out to be a defective Cable on the pump/control unit. Stung me for about 95 Euro, but she runs smooth as ever now. To give more precise advice, can you specify any symptoms or error codes? It'll help me give you a more accurate response. Plus, what part of the world are you? Might be able to recommend a reliable workshop if you're close by. Take care.

Hey, really appreciate the response. Well, the main symptoms are that the engine tends to overheat after even a relatively short journey and that check engine light is a new "feature". As for error codes, haven't managed to pull those yet but it's definitely on my to-do list. As for location, I'm over in Sydney, Australia. If you got a trusted spot around here, I'm all ears. By the way, my beauty has clocked a solid 290,381 KM and her last service was some time back. Cheers for any further advice you can toss my way.

G'day again Okay, those are solid signs pointing to a cooling system issue indeed. Could be the electric pump, could also be a thermostat or a water pump malfunction - these guys usually start acting up around your mileage point. But you really need to pull those error codes. They're going to give you a clear direction towards the actual issue. Also, if it’s been a while since you last checked, radiator fluid levels and checking for any leakage wouldn't hurt. As for a trusted spot in Sydney, my lives there and he's been going to 'Honest Mechanix' in Alexandria (Told him the name was cheesy but their work is worth every cent). He drives a 2016 Axela Diesel like yours, hasn’t had any complaints with them. Lastly, remember to not push your baby too hard till you get this fixed. Overheating can fry the head gasket and you really don’t want to go down that road. Keep me posted on how you go, good luck!

Hey! Appreciate all your advice. I'll definitely check out Honest Mechanix for sure, not bothered by a cheesy name as long as they can get the job done right. Didn't even think about the possible thermostat or water pump issue, it’s been a while for those systems definitely. I’ll be sure to get those error codes ASAP. You're right about not pushing her too hard, don't need an even bigger problem on my hands. I'll keep you updated on the situation. Thanks again for all the tips!
