Mazda 6 Keyless Entry System Issues and Flickering Lights: Seeking Advice and Experiences

Vehicle cannot be unlocked or locked

Dim or flickering lights

Hey everyone, I've got this 2017 Mazda 6, running on gasoline with 142,581 KM on the clock, and I need some advice. Recently, the car's become about as responsive to locks as a brick wall (that is, zip response to unlocking or locking it), plus the lights are doing a dimming and flickering dance. Based on my non-expert guess, I reckon we're dealing with a nasty case of keyless entry system rebellion. Last time I took it to a mechanic, didn't exactly get a smooth ride, so here I am, hoping y'all can share your similar experiences and maybe how your mechanic tackled it. Thanks in advance!

Hey there, had a similar issue with my 2014 Mazda 3 just a few moons ago. The fuel door wouldn't budge despite the command from my key fob and the interior lights were putting on their own disco show. It's not exactly serious per se, but more of an annoying problem, wouldn't leave you stranded on the road. Turned out there was a defective cable connection running to the outside door handle's electronics. Door handle's got its own control unit and wiring, see, that plays a role in the automatic lock function. The cable got all messed up and had to be replaced. Plus, the flickering lights were a result of that same issue. Had to get that done at the nearest garage, and let's just say they had their work cut out for 'em, wrenched-open door panels, scattered wires, a proper operation theatre situation. But hey, in the end, pushed through the issue and got me car running smooth again. Don't shy away from a good mechanic based on one sour experience. These are intricate electronic systems and they wouldn't respond to a DIY fix. So do yourself a favor and take that Mazda 6 in to get the door cable seen. Good luck!

Hey, thanks for sharing. Sounds like a royal pain, but it’s good to hear that you managed to resolve the problem with your Mazda 3. This kind of gives me a ballpark on what I might be dealing with here. Just out of curiosity, do you remember what you shelled out to get it fixed? Also, did any other issues sprout up in relation to this problem since you had it repaired? Would appreciate a heads up if I should expect any "guest appearances". Cheers!

Hey again! Oh, the joys of car ownership, right? Okay, as for your questions. If memory serves me right, the bill for fixing that stubborn cable connection to the outside door handle's electronics was about 170 €. Of course, it's going to vary depending on your local mechanic's rates. As for other issues cropping up post-repair... I'm happy to report that it's been smooth sailing. The keyless entry system has been behaving itself since the mechanic worked his magic. No "guest appearances" to speak of. In truth, our cars, like us poor humans, have their quirks! Make sure you got a good mechanic who knows his stuff. It's a bit of a hassle, but well worth sorting out. Keep me posted on how it goes with your Mazda 6!

Ah, you're a life-saver! Your input really helped me calm the storm in my head. Yeah, cars can be quirky little things like us, couldn't agree more! I'm relieved to hear that no "guest appearances" are likely in this scene though. The fixing cost doesn't seem unreasonable either, considering it's a one-time deal. You're right, it's all about finding a mechanic who knows his way around. Got me rethinking my last fiasco. I guess it’s time for round two with a different mechanic! Thanks again for all your help. Will surely get back with my own "tale from the garage". Until then, smooth drivin'!
