Malfunction with radio key and central locking system of a 2016 BMW 4 Series

Key fob issues

Locking/Unlocking issue

Greetings, I've got a little problem with my 2016 BMW 4 Series with a petrol engine and a proud 159134 km on the clock. My key, both the radio key and the central locking system, are totally crazy. I suspect that the access control could be faulty. Unfortunately, I had a bad experience at the mechanic last time, so I'm contacting you. Has anyone had similar problems and can perhaps give me a tip regarding the repair? Many thanks in advance! Best regards.

Hi, I can report the same issues with my 2013 BMW 3 series. Had similar issues with the central locking and found out it was the battery in the key. It was flat and had to be replaced. This can happen, especially with old keys. It's not a huge problem, but it can be really annoying. I just had it done at my next inspection. That should solve your problem. Give it a try, hope it helps you too! Best regards.

Hey, thanks for your tip about the battery in the key! That actually sounds really logical and would be an easy fix. Do you happen to remember what you paid the mechanic to change the battery? And have you had any other problems with it since then? Many thanks in advance! Regards.

Hey, I'm glad I could help you! I only had to pay €10 to replace the battery in the key, which was a really small amount. But I can tell you something else, that the access control system in my car also went haywire once. After your post, I had a flashbulb memory and remembered that I had an error with the input signal of another control unit. And that was then a bigger post. I had to dig pretty deep into my mechanic's pocket - €1000 to be precise. But no more grumbling since then. Try replacing the battery first and hopefully that will save you the more expensive repair route I had to take. Best regards!

Hi, thanks for your detailed answer! A battery change for €10 sounds much better than your subsequent expensive mechanic experience. I really hope this is my solution. But it's good to know that it could be something bigger, I'm not worried about problems arising. After all, it is supposed to happen and I speak from my own history of suffering when you can and have to prepare for big expenses. Now I have no choice but to try changing the battery first and then see what happens. Thanks again for your help, you've probably saved me a lot of trouble! Best regards!
