Malfunction of the gear selection display and warning light in the 2007 Toyota Avalon

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Gear selection display in the speedometer without function

Hi guys, I'm having a bit of trouble with my 2007 Toyota Avalon (petrol engine), which now has 185,822 kilometers on the clock. I've just noticed that the gear selection display in the speedometer no longer works and the warning light in the speedometer is illuminated. I suspect it is due to the clutch pedal switch malfunction. Have any of you ever had something like this? How did your garage solve it? Incidentally, I didn't have such a good experience with my mechanic recently, so I'm asking for your experiences here. Thank you for your answers. Best regards!

Hi, your problem reminds me of a similar experience I had with my 2010 Toyota Camry. It turned out that the engine control unit was faulty. The defective unit was actually a serious problem because it controls many different functions in the vehicle. Basically, the car could not be driven safely without repair. During the repair, the defective module had to be replaced. After that, everything worked perfectly again. I'm not a mechanic, but it might be worth considering. Hope you find a solution to your problem quickly! Good luck!

Hey, your post really got me thinking. I hope it's not the engine control unit in my case though, that sounds like an expensive repair. Do you remember how much you paid for the repair back then? And were there any other problems with your Camry afterwards or has everything been running smoothly since then? Thanks for your help! Best regards!

Hey, so after I went to the mechanic, this stupid clutch pedal switch malfunction was finally fixed and everything has been running fine ever since. For the repair of the engine control unit, however, I put 1000€ on the table. Yes, it's not exactly a penny, but the Camry has been running like a kitten ever since, no shit! No further problems since then, so you can say it was worth it. Best regards!

Hey, your answer reassures me a little, although €1000 is a lot of money. But if it solves problems in the long term and my Avalon runs like new again afterwards, it might be worth it for me too. I'll contact my mechanic and ask him to take a closer look at the engine control unit. Thanks again for your help! Best regards!
