Malfunction of automatic tailgate opening and warning light on BMW X5, 2013 petrol engine

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Tailgate does not open automatically

Hello everyone, I'm currently having a few problems with my BMW X5, petrol engine, year of manufacture 2013. The tailgate no longer opens automatically and a warning light in the speedometer also lights up. I suspect that the Hall sensor on the tailgate might be broken? Have any of you ever had similar problems and can tell me whether my assumption could be correct? I would also be interested to know how this was fixed in the workshop and what experiences you have had with it. Thank you very much for your help!

Hi, I can understand your pain quite well! I had a similar problem with my BMW X4, diesel, built in 2015. I only have some experience with cars, but the symptoms look exactly like mine at the time. In my case, the spindle drive was defective, which ultimately meant that the tailgate no longer opened automatically. I had to take the vehicle to the garage to fix the problem. The repair cost me 335 euros. However, without more detailed information about your vehicle, it is difficult to give more specific advice. Can you please provide more details? All the best!

Hello and thank you for your quick reply! I'm glad to hear that you were able to solve a similar problem. My car now has 92540 km on it and the last service was not long ago. Hope this helps with the diagnosis. Thanks again and all the best!

Hi again, thanks for the extra info. Given the mileage and the year of manufacture, it is certainly possible that it is a mechanical problem, as in my case at the time. The warning light also indicates a technical problem. It could therefore also be the Hall sensor, as you suspected, but it's difficult to confirm without a precise diagnosis from a specialist. I would advise you to take your car to the garage and have the exact fault read out there. Only then will you know exactly where the problem lies and how expensive the repair will be. Unfortunately, there was no direct DIY solution for this problem in my research either. I hope I was able to help you a little further. All the best and I'll keep my fingers crossed that the repair won't be too expensive!

Hi and were you able to solve your problem. What did you replace? Do I have the same errors sporadically?
