Macan Diesel Power Loss: Boost Control Issues Alert!

Check engine light on

Jerking on acceleration

Unsteady engine

Loss of engine power

Hey everyone, my 2019 Macan Diesel is giving me headaches lately. The check engine light is on, and I'm experiencing power loss along with rough idling and jerky acceleration. I suspect it might be related to the boost pressure control, but I'm not 100% sure. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? I'd really appreciate hearing about your repair experiences and what the actual problem turned out to be. What did your mechanic do to fix it? Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had a pretty similar issue with my 2017 Cayenne Diesel last year. I have some experience working on cars, but turbo-related stuff is definitely workshop territory for me. When I had those exact symptoms, power loss, rough idle, and jerky acceleration, it turned out to be the wastegate valve linkage that needed adjustment. Took it to my trusted mechanic, and they sorted it out in about 2 hours. Cost me around 240 Euro, which wasn't too bad considering the headache it was causing. What diagnostic codes are you getting? Also, have you noticed any excessive black smoke or heard any unusual whistling noises? This info would help determine if you're dealing with the same issue I had.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Yeah, I'm currently at 90986 KM and had my last service about 3 months ago. I'm getting the P0299 code, but no black smoke or whistling noises so far. Did your mechanic mention anything about possible damage to other components when they fixed your wastegate valve? I'm worried about waiting too long to get it sorted.

Hey again! I totally get your concern. Looking back at my situation with my Cayenne, when I had it fixed at around 85K kilometers, my mechanic actually did a thorough check of the surrounding components. The good news is that he didn't find any additional damage, and the wastegate adjustment solved the problem completely. With the P0299 code you're getting, it's pretty similar to what I experienced. Since you're not seeing black smoke or hearing whistling (like in my case), that's actually a good sign. It probably means you caught it early enough, just like I did. Just to share my longer-term experience, it's been about a year since I had mine fixed, and I haven't had any related issues since then. I've put another 20K kilometers on the clock without any problems. The key thing was getting it sorted quickly once I noticed the symptoms. One tip though, while they're in there, have them check the actuator rod and the turbo clamps too. My mechanic did this as a precaution, and it was worth the extra few minutes of labor just for peace of mind. Would definitely recommend getting it checked out soon, but I wouldn't stress too much about permanent damage if you address it promptly. Keep us posted on how it goes!

Thanks so much for the detailed follow-up! That's really reassuring to hear about your long-term success after the repair. I've actually just booked an appointment with my local Porsche specialist for next Tuesday morning. You're right about getting it sorted quickly, no point in risking bigger issues. I'll definitely ask them to check the actuator rod and turbo clamps like you suggested. That's a great tip! It's a relief to know that you haven't had any problems since your repair. Makes me feel much better about the whole situation. I'll update the thread once I get it fixed to let everyone know what the actual issue was. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it's been super helpful!
