Macan Diesel's Turbo Troubles: Fix & Shop Advice Needed

Shaking while idling

Loss of engine power

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Check engine light on

Stalling while idling

Unsteady engine

Whistling noise

Jerking on acceleration

Loud hissing on acceleration

Hey everyone, my 2019 Porsche Macan Diesel (88.7K km) has been giving me some serious trouble lately. The engine's running rough with black exhaust smoke, constant jerking, and weird hissing/whistling noises when I accelerate. It's also stalling and shaking at idle, plus the check engine light is on. I suspect it's a boost pressure system issue. Had a bad experience with my previous mechanic, so I'm looking for recommendations. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Where did you get it fixed, and how much did it cost? Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had very similar issues with my 2016 Porsche Cayenne Diesel last summer. Those symptoms are classic signs of a failing waste gate valve, I know because I went through exactly the same thing. Mine was making that distinct whistling noise, black smoke, and the engine felt really jumpy, especially during acceleration. Took it to the official Porsche service center since this isn't something you want a regular shop messing with. They found the waste gate valve was stuck, causing irregular boost pressure. The turbo wasn't functioning properly, which explained all those symptoms. They had to replace the entire waste gate assembly and recalibrate the engine management system. It wasn't a quick fix, had the car in the shop for about 4 days. It's definitely a serious issue that needs immediate attention as it can lead to more engine damage if left unfixed. The dealer did a great job, and the car's been running perfectly since then. I'd strongly recommend going to an authorized Porsche center for this kind of work.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! This really helps as I'm dealing with a similar situation. Quick question, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the waste gate replacement and recalibration? Also, has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other issues pop up? Just want to get an idea of what I might be looking at cost-wise and if I should expect any follow-up problems. Thanks!

Hey again! Absolutely happy to help! Yeah, I can tell you exactly what it cost me, the total bill came to 860€ for the whole job. That covered the waste gate valve replacement and all the recalibration work. And I've got good news, since getting it fixed last summer, my Cayenne's been running like a dream! The boost pressure system is working perfectly now, no more of those scary symptoms we talked about. You know what's funny? I was actually worried sick about potential follow-up issues, but honestly, it's been smooth sailing since the repair. That annoying whistling noise is completely gone, no more black smoke, and the engine runs super smooth. It was definitely worth every penny to get it done at the Porsche center. Just make sure you get it sorted soon, these things tend to get worse (and more expensive!) if you leave them too long. Hope this helps with your decision making! Let me know how it goes if you get it fixed.

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! I actually just got back from the Porsche center yesterday. You were spot on, it was the waste gate valve! Mine ended up costing a bit more, around 980€, probably because of some additional sensor work they had to do. The whole experience was way better than with my previous mechanic. They took the car in Tuesday morning, and I got it back Thursday afternoon. The service team kept me updated throughout the process, which I really appreciated. Just took it for a proper drive this morning, and wow, what a difference! No more black smoke, that annoying whistling is gone, and it's running super smooth again. The acceleration is back to normal too, I forgot how responsive it should feel! Really glad I asked here and followed your advice about going to the Porsche center. Definitely saved me from potentially bigger headaches down the road. Thanks again for helping me out with this!
