Macan's Parking Brake Dead: Repair Costs & Solutions
Electical handbrake is not working

Hey again! Happy to give you an update! After taking it to the dealership like I mentioned, it cost me exactly 505€ to fix the electric motor in the brake caliper. I know it's not cheap, but honestly, it was worth every penny. Since the repair, my Cayenne's parking brake has been working perfectly, not a single problem in the system! It's such a relief not having to worry about that anymore. The dealership really knew what they were doing, and the quality of their work shows. I can now park on hills without any anxiety, and the auto-hold function works like a charm too. I know the price tag might seem a bit steep, but considering it's a safety feature, I'd say it's better to get it done right the first time. Plus, it's still cheaper than having to deal with potential complications from a botched repair job! Let me know if you end up getting yours fixed, would be curious to hear if you run into the same issue I had!
Thanks so much for all the details! You're right, I bit the bullet and took it to the Porsche dealership yesterday. what a difference from my regular mechanic! They diagnosed it right away, same issue as yours, faulty electric motor. Bill came to around 520 € which wasn't as bad as I was expecting. Funny story actually, while I was waiting in their lounge (way nicer than my usual mechanic's place!), I saw them working on my car through the service window. These guys were super professional, even showed me the old part and explained everything. Much better than my last experience where I felt totally in the dark about what was going on. Car's running perfectly now, brake works like a charm. Guess sometimes you just have to spend a bit more to get things done right. Really glad I asked here first, saved me from probably making another mistake with my regular mechanic. Thanks again for pushing me in the right direction!

Hey there, I had a similar issue with my 2018 Porsche Cayenne last winter. The electronic parking brake just stopped working completely one morning. Turned out the electric motor in the brake caliper was defective and needed replacement. Got it fixed at my local Porsche dealership since it's quite a specific repair job. They had to replace both the motor and the control unit. The repair took about a day and a half because they needed to calibrate the new system properly. It's definitely not a DIY job, requires special diagnostic equipment and coding. This is actually a serious issue since it affects your car's safety systems. You really shouldn't drive around with a faulty parking brake for too long. I'd recommend going to a Porsche specialist or dealership for this one, even if it costs more than your usual mechanic. They'll have the right tools and know-how to fix it properly. Hope this helps with your decision!
