Macan's Cooling Crisis: Hot AC & Engine Temp Troubles

Overheating

Air conditioning blows warm air

Hey all, having issues with my 2020 Macan. The AC is blowing hot air and engine temperature is running high. I suspect the electric cooling fan might be the culprit. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Looking for feedback on diagnosis and repair experiences, especially from those who've had it fixed at a shop. What was the actual problem and solution? Thanks!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2018 Porsche Cayenne last summer, and it was super frustrating! I'd say I have some experience with car maintenance, but I'm no expert. The symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what I dealt with. My electric fan control unit went bad, and I had the same problems, AC blowing hot and engine temp climbing. Took it to my trusted Porsche specialist workshop, and they diagnosed the faulty fan control unit/resistor. Bill came to around 480€ for parts and labor, but it fixed the issue completely. What's your mileage on the Macan? Also, have you noticed if the cooling fan is running at all? This could help confirm if we're dealing with the same problem. Feel free to share more details!

Thanks for sharing your experience! My Macan's at 131408 KM and had its last service about 2 months ago. The fan seems to run intermittently, sometimes it kicks in, other times it's completely dead. Good to know about the control unit being the possible culprit. That repair cost doesn't sound too bad actually. I'll probably have my local Porsche shop take a look at it. Did you notice any warning lights before the problem got worse?

Hey again! Yeah, I totally get what you mean about the intermittent fan behavior, that's exactly how mine started acting up. Actually, with my Cayenne, I didn't get any warning lights at first, which was kind of tricky. It wasn't until the temperature started climbing that the engine temp warning light came on, but by then I was already aware something was wrong because of the AC issues. Since you mentioned yours is running intermittently, that's pretty much identical to what I experienced before getting it fixed. It's interesting that it started after just 2 months from your last service, mine acted up about 3 months after a regular check-up too. One thing I didn't mention in my first reply, before taking it to the shop, I tried checking the fuses (just to be sure), but that wasn't the issue. The intermittent operation is really typical of a failing control unit, so I'm pretty confident you're dealing with the same problem I had. Just a heads up, try to get it checked soon, especially with summer coming up. Don't want to risk overheating! Let me know how it goes when you get it looked at!

Thanks so much for all the details! That's super helpful to know that you didn't get warning lights initially either. I'll definitely get it checked out this week, you're right about not wanting to risk it with summer around the corner. I just checked the fuses too after reading your reply, and they all seem fine, so I'm pretty convinced now it's the control unit. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, especially about the timing after service, makes me feel better knowing it's probably not something that was missed during maintenance. I'll update the thread once I get it diagnosed and fixed. Thanks again for your help!
