Looking for solutions to problems with the Renault Talisman 2017: engine indicator light, high fuel consumption and exhaust odor

Strong exhaust smell

Poor fuel economy

Check engine light on

Hey guys, I have a problem with my 2017 Renault Talisman and hope you can help me out. It's a petrol engine and is currently causing me a lot of trouble. The check engine light is on all the time, the fuel consumption is way too high and the exhaust smells really bad. I suspect that something is wrong with the control of the secondary air valve. Have any of you ever experienced something like this and can give me a tip on what I can do? I'm particularly interested to know how you got it sorted out in the workshop and how much it cost. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2015 Renault Mégane. I'm not a professional but have a bit of experience with cars. I went to my garage and they found that the electric changeover valve was faulty. That cost me 140 euros. They replaced it and the problem was solved. I hope that helps. But it would be better if you give more details about your car, for example the exact model name, then I could help you further.

Hi, thanks for the tip! My Talisman is a 2017 Renault with a gasoline engine. It already has 91527 km behind it and only had its last service recently. It's really stupid that the problem is occurring right now. I will probably consider your workshop solution. 140 euros is still manageable if that's the solution to the problem.

Moin, it definitely sounds like the electric changeover valve could be the problem. But I would still recommend you get it checked by a professional. It may well be that your Talisman has the same problem as my Mégane, but there could also be other causes. In my case, replacing the valve solved the problem, but this may be different for other cars and models. And make sure you don't throw money away on unnecessary repairs. It's best to go straight to your regular garage and tell them about the problem. They should know what to do. Good luck, buddy!

Hey, thanks again for your help. It's always good to get advice from someone who has had similar problems. I will definitely visit a garage and see what they have to say. Thanks also for the warning about spending unnecessary money, unfortunately that's always a danger with car repairs. I hope it's nothing major and I'll be back on the road quickly. Thanks again and a good start to the day to everyone!
